Locations of Darfur Armed Opposition Groups and Coalitions

The map below, created by the African Union/United Nations Hybrid operation in Darfur (UNAMID) in May 2010, specifies areas of operation for Darfur armed opposition groups and coalitions, as well as Chadian armed opposition groups operating in Darfur.
Some caveats should be borne in mind. The Small Arms Survey considers the areas of control of Sudan Liberation Army-Abul Wahid (SLA-AW) to be significantly smaller than illustrated in this map. SLA-AW has control of the heights of Jebel Marra, on the border of West and North Darfur, and claims a small area west of the town of Korma. But the Ain Siro mountains north of Kutum are controlled by critics of SLA-AW, and Jebel Meidop north of Malha has divided loyalties, with Meidop interests paramount.
Finally, the Liberation and Justice Movement is primarily a negotiating umbrella for factions without a unified military command. Its military presence in the field is relatively weak.
